Beck makes obvious connections seem nefarious.
Last week, Fox News released video that they initially claimed people would go to jail for, and their claims and predictions did not come true. The first video they released was two young republican activists dressed like a pimp and prostitute entrapping ACORN workers into helping them pay taxes and get a mortgage.
A couple of ACORN employees have been fired, and charges have been leveled against the filmmakers of doctoring the tapes and illegal taping.
In the second clip, an ACORN employee realizes she is being set up, and turns the tables on the filmmakers by telling them she killed her abusive husband. Fox played the tape, apparently hoping other journalists would report the story without fact checking it.
The Washington Post did fact check the filmmakers that sold FOX the tapes, one of them is named James O’Keefe, and he claimed he made the tapes because “politicians are getting elected single-handedly due to this organization”, thereby, exposing their agenda.
Which seems to be, voter registration drives that seek to balance democracy by having lower income and minorities vote, are not fair to politicians that represent upper income and white people who traditionally hold sway by larger voter turnout.
The FOX News attack may not of had it’s desired outcome, but it was not just an attack on a group whose aim is to help poor people and dis-advantaged communities, it is a full -fledged and ongoing attack on a democratically elected government.
In this clip from Media Matters, Glenn Beck makes connections between an union that represents low-wage service workers, a group that lobbies to raise the minimum wage, and a alliance of labor and environmental groups acting to establish a clean energy industrial base. As you would expect by the similar intentions and interests of the groups, it is not a difficult task, even for Beck.
The difficult part is making this frightening, and something that should be opposed, so he brings up these groups shared connection to the TIDES Center which does administrative services for progressive groups.
This is from their website,
Our mission is to partner with philanthropists, foundations, activists, and organizations across the country and across the globe to promote economic justice, robust democratic processes, and the opportunity to live in a healthy and sustainable environment where human rights are preserved and protected.
Linking these groups may be simple, but Beck performs with a conspiratorial voice, throws in a connection to Jeff Jones, who was a member of the Weather Underground, Van Jones, whose Beck has been smearing for weeks as a radical Marxist, does not mention the true aims or intents of these groups, just implies that they are people his audience should be afraid of by showing a mugshot photo, implyingthat they are the people setting the real agenda of Obama’s administration .
George Soros is at the top of his tree of nefarious connections. Many members of Beck’s audience may know nothing about the Tides Foundation other than the internet whisper/smear campaign directed against them, and likewise nothing about the Weather Underground or Van Jones than the Fox smear campaigns against them. Beck also seems to know little about the groups he is slandering, as he looks at his ‘chalkboard of doom’ and says ACORN founder “Made Rathke”, whose name is , of course Wade.
This may seem a slip of the tongue, but when taken with a effort across so many different FOX shows over months, leads one to believe it was just Beck misreading the script written for him by others.
A script he understands little of, but is simply a performer on a stage helping protect his upper class interests.
Glenn Beck’s campaign to exert power and influence is far from over. He seems to be implanting seeds of paranoia and fear in his audience, which he will water , nurture and cultivate over the coming months.
